Based on a review of the patient’s medical history, it may be necessary for the doctor to perform additional blood work and an E.K.G before continuing with the procedure. The procedure is done under general anesthetic performed by an anesthesiologist.

Risks

Post-operative complications such as infection and blood clots are rare, but can occur. Infection can be treated with drainage and antibiotics. Risks of infection are even higher when incisions are made in the gluteal crease. Smokers should be advised to stop, as smoking may increase the risk of complications and delay healing.

Another complication that could occur is the implants shifting and causing the results to appear asymmetrical. The implants may also rupture, or break, a rare, but possible occurrence
